Discipleship is an essential function of the church. It’s the mission that Jesus left us with when He raised from the dead and ascended to the Father: “Go into all the world and make disciples.” As disciples of Jesus, an important part of our job description is being disciple-makers.

But discipleship is a weak spot in many churches today. We all know that we’re called to make disciples, but we often feel paralyzed because we don’t know exactly what that ought to look like. We don’t know where to begin.

MultiplyTo address this problem, I have been working together with our Founder, Francis Chan, and David Platt to produce disciple-making material that anyone anywhere can use for free. It’s called Multiply. Basically, the material is designed for ordinary Christians who want to help other people follow Jesus. It consists of six parts: Living as a Disciple Maker, Living as the Church, How to Study the Bible, Understanding the Old Testament, Understanding the New Testament, Helping People Change.

We believe that this type of material will help the church better fulfill its mission by equipping Christians to come together, study God’s word, and effectively minister to the hurting people around them (and around the world). The best part is, the whole thing is free. It’s meant to be passed on, linked to, and used in any way that will strengthen the local church.

You can access the Multiply material here:

Update: Since I first posted this, Multiply has been published in book form. You can still access all of the material for free using the link above (you can also watch videos of Francis Chan and David Platt discussing the material), or you can order it in book form here (many people don’t like to read books on their computer screens).

When will all six sessions be complete? I have looked at the first three and beleive this is exactly what we need in our discipleship mininstry. Thanks for making them free!

    • Mark Beuving

We’re adding new sessions at least every two weeks, so it should be done by March, if not sooner.

      • Craig

        Thanks Mark

  • The link for session 2 still doesn’t work but I think it is going to be great stuff. Thank you for supplying it FREE! What a blessing!

Genius idea! I love it! I can already see good things in the works just by looking at the titles. I think these 3 topics are a MUST these days as people have no idea how to read the bible (How to Study the Bible, Understanding the Old Testament, Understanding the New Testament) Excellent idea! God bless you guys.

Whoops! Sorry about the broken link. It should be working now. If not, just head to

      Hi David.

The links in the article above are correct, but it looks like the site is down. I’m sure this is just temporary. “Multiply” is going through the publishing process now (they’re looking at a November 2012) release date, and that will include a revamp of the site. I’m sure they’ll have it back up soon.

The Link does not work. How can we acess and get the material? Thank You!

  • Bryan

Thank you for this. I have never had anyone mention disciplship to me in my many years in and out of the church. The Lord Jesus came to me and I was born again by His doings, I then couldn’t help but move forward because the Spirit was so alive in me. Now I see how behind I am, how much more I could have done had I been discipled. It is difficult to disciple if you haven’t been discipled. I’m coming up on a year since I was born again!

Finally, a uniform disciple-making-based program to get the church headed in a more early-church direction. Having stepped outside of the traditional American church format, (for many, many reasons) I’ve wondered what’s next. A program like this, from a source I can trust, gives us a good starting point. Headed to right now…
